PORTFOLIO
This piece is titled “Shepard Fairey Portrait”. The subject is my good friend Jasmine. She is looking forward off the frame, into the future. The hardest part of this piece was the Shepard Fairey-inspired blend of color and value- I had to use different colors to stand for different values. Choosing which colors to use and building a value scale off of those hues was challenging. I think the shapes of the value blocks are the most successful part about the artwork- Jasmine’s likeness was captured, and everyone who saw the piece knew who I used as my model and subject.
This piece is titled “Shoe Repetition”. The subject is my favorite pair of shoes- my gray slip-on Vans. In this piece, I rendered a vectorized image of my shoe and copied it over and over until I had enough shoes to make a little wheel of sorts. Then I changed the colors of the shoes in some of the wheels. I used a complimentary color scheme and varied the sizes of the wheels of shoes to add some visual interest. I think the use of space in the artwork is the most successful- there is no true negative space in the artwork- every piece of line and color is an image of one of the shoes.

This piece is titled “Cookie Box Design”. I was asked to design a box for any kind of cookie I wanted. I chose a classic chocolate chip cookie. When I thought about what people liked about these cookies, I realized it was because they were a classic recipe, with nothing for people to dislike, and I played on that theme. I used images of 1950’s era diners as inspiration for the checkerboard and pink theme, and rendered silhouettes to show the universality of the appeal of chocolate chip cookies. The shape of these silhouettes are the most successful aspect of this artwork.
This piece is titled “Personal Identity Logo”. I came up with the idea by coming up with things I am and things I do. I am energetic, and I love to rock climb. I symbolized energy with the lightning bolt, and I showed rock climbing by depicting the subject rock climbing on the lightning bolt, as though it were a cliff. I used line very heavily in this piece, using thick black outlines of all of the elements to emphasize the lines work. The most successful element of this piece is the composition and idea behind it- I am proud of the idea’s cleverness.
